Domus verbi on Belgrade’s cultural transversale

The paper’s subject matter is activation of the existing Culture Street in Belgrade, analysis of its route, its present and eventual contents, as well as formation of the house of words – domus verbi, towad the end of the transversale, which should attract people like a magnet, making them go through the whole section and arrive to kalemegdan – the space where culture culminates“. The Culture Street would start from Tašmajdan and follow the line of Ilije Garašanina, Svetogorska and Makedonska Streets, the Republic Sqaure, Vasina Street, Student Square and Uzun-Mirkova Street, ending at Kalemegdan, Belgrade’s multicentennial landmark.

The IKL in Belgrade is situated in the very centre of the city, bordered by the streets of Starine Novaka, Dalmatinska, Stanoja Glavaša and Knez Danilova. The design started from the imperative of conserving all existing factiry facilities and changing their purpose. The halls along Knez Danilova and Stanoja Glavaša streets were kept, as well as two halls inside the complex. The street front toward Dalmatinska Street was dismantled and substituted with a new one, continual facility.
